Dr. Shu-Han Huang, Ph.D., LCPC, CADC - Intern Counseling Psychologist/ Seeing Counseling Center

Bringing international clinical experience home—with humility, curiosity, and respect for local culture.

【About Me】

Dr. Shu-Han Huang is an Illinois Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC), Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADC), therapist, educator, clinical supervisor, trainer, and international presenter. She brings cross-cultural life experience in the United States and extensive clinical experience across hospitals, behavioral health programs, outpatient clinics, addiction treatment centers, community mental health settings, and higher education.

Originally from Taiwan, Dr. Huang moved to the United States three decades ago. She earned her Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision from National Louis University in Tampa, Florida, where her doctoral research explored cross-cultural parenting and how families navigate identity, culture, belonging, and relationships across diverse cultural contexts.

Throughout her clinical career, Dr. Huang has worked with adolescents, adults, couples, and families experiencing depression, anxiety, trauma, relationship challenges, substance use disorders, life transitions, and cross-cultural adjustment. Her work is informed by both professional expertise and lived experience, giving her a deep appreciation for the ways culture, family, and personal history shape emotional well-being, relationships, and resilience.

After many years of living, studying, teaching, and practicing psychotherapy in the United States, Dr. Huang returned to Taiwan with a commitment to giving back to her home community while continuing to learn from Taiwan's mental health system and cultural context. She views this homecoming as both a professional responsibility and a lifelong learning journey—bringing international clinical experience back to Taiwan while remaining grounded in humility, curiosity, and respect for local culture.

Dr. Huang's work is grounded in both the Satir Growth Model and Reality Therapy and Choice Theory, two complementary humanistic approaches that emphasize authentic connection, personal responsibility, self-worth, and the belief that every individual has the capacity to make meaningful choices and create lasting change.

Dr. Huang also integrates evidence-based approaches including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing, Trauma-Informed Care, Attachment Theory, and Multicultural Counseling. Rather than relying on a single therapeutic model, she thoughtfully integrates multiple approaches to meet each individual's unique strengths, culture, needs, and life experiences.

Dr. Huang is passionate about making psychological knowledge practical, culturally responsive, and accessible to therapists, educators, parents, and helping professionals worldwide. She views therapy as a collaborative journey where individuals can deepen self-awareness, strengthen self-worth, build meaningful relationships, and develop the freedom, responsibility, and resilience to create lives that are congruent with their values and hopes for the future.
